Magnet Show 'n Tell

In connection to our science unit about magnets, the Yeladim brought magnets to school for show and tell. We learned that magnets attract other magnets, and different types of metals. It was interesting to see how many metals and magnets can stick together without falling apart.

Fleet week in Coney Island

The Kindergarten Yeladim were lucky enough to participate in Fleet week celebration which took place on May 27th. The US Marines brought helicopters to Coney Island. We were able to talk a walk through the helicopters, and sit in the driver's and passengers seats. We almost felt like soldiers ourselves! We also got a chance to speak to the Marines and ask them any questions we had about the helicopters and the work that they do.

Fruit Party

In honor of health awareness month we made a delicious fruit salad. Thank you to all the parents who sent in yummy fruit. Not only did our class enjoy the salad, but we also shared some with all the other classes in our school.

Hebrew Word Hunt

Celebrating Shavuos in Kindergarten!

In honor of Shavuos we made beautiful flowers to remember the way Hashem decorated Har Sinai with beautiful flowers. We also made dairy ice cream because it is a custom to eat dairy foods on Shavuos.
The Yeladim had a great time shaking up the bags of ice and watching the milk turn into ice cream.

We Walked The Brooklyn Bridge!!

It's Health Month at Mazel! Today, we had a great time doing a healthy exercise. We walked (and some of us jogged) the Brooklyn Bridge from the beginning until the end! We learned that doing exercise is a great way to keep ourselves healthy and fit. Most of all we can have so much fun while exercising.

Baking for Mother's Day!

I hope you enjoyed the delicious cookies and beautiful letters your children brought home for you in honor of Mother's Day. To tell you the truth, the Yeladim finished our class magnet chart and earned a cookie party. They did such a good job making the cookies on their own! So. they decided to share with you their hard work.
Enjoy the pictures that include baking, our cookie party, and prize store for finishing our magnet chart.

Volcano Experiment

Following our trip to the museum, we did an experiment to see what happens when a volcano erupts.
We learned that hot magma and gas form below Earth's surface and break through cracks in Earth's crusts resulting in the eruption of a volcano. Eventually the magma that flows out of the volcano will form mountains or rocks.
Check out the pictures! It felt so real and we were amazed!

Field Trip to The Museum of Natural History

Just after we got back from our Pesach vacation, we went on a fabulous trip to The Museum of Natural History.
We visited the Hall of Planet Earth which had lots of information on volcanoes, earthquakes, and rocks. One of the most interesting things we got to see and feel was a giant globe. We noticed how small the continents looked compared to the amount of water on the globe.
We also visited the Ocean Exhibit and enjoyed looking at all different types of fish and ocean animals.
The last place we visited was The Butterfly Conservatory. We were able to go into a room that had butterflies flying all around. Some of us got to hold butterflies that landed on us. We were able to examine the butterflies closely and see all their beautiful colors. We also saw rows of cocoons that will soon become butterflies.
And then it was time to go back to school. Our ride home on the subway was definitely a big highlight for us.
The Yeladim were all given clipboards with paper and crayons to draw what they saw at the museum. Thes pictures will be going into our science scrapbooks.
Enjoy the pictures!

What's going on in Kindergarten?

We are in the last trimester of the school year. We know that first grade is just around the corner. Therefore,  brushing up on our Hebrew and English reading  and writing skills is our Top Priority. We starting writing daily entries in our journals. We know that being good readers will enable us to succeed in first grade.
And of course we are also busy with all of our regular subjects like math, science and social studies. Check out the pictures of our latest trips and activities for more details!

Trip to the Model Matza Bakery!!

Today, we had a fabulous time at the Model Matza bakery. We watched and took part of the entire process of making Matza. From seeing how flour is made to making the dough and of course rolling it out flat flat flat.
While our Matzas were baking we enjoyed going back in time to the time period of the Jews in Mitzrayim. We acted out working as slaves to King Pharoh, and then Moshe coming to save the Jewish people and punish King Pharoh with the 10 plagues, and finally King Pharoh lets the Jewish people leave Mitzrayim!
Enjoy the pictures, and the Matza your children bring home!

Please note that this Matza is NOT Kosher for Pesach.

Our Model Seder!

Last week we went on a trip to Morah Chava's house for our very own model Seder. It almost felt like we were at a real Seder when we drank 4 cups of grape juice and ate Charoses and Marror. We went through all the 15 steps of the Seder, we asked the Mah Nishatana, and sang all of our favorite Pesach songs. Eliyahu hid the Afikoman, and boy was it hard to find! Aviva looked under the doormat and there it was! The Yeladim are so excited to bring home their Haggadah's and use them on Pesach at the Seder. Enjoy!

Our Trip to the Library!

Yesterday, we went on a trip to the Brooklyn Public Library. First we walked through some of the rooms in the library. We noticed that the rooms are divided according to SUBJECT. One room had books about finding a job, and another room had books about science and social studies.

Then we went into a big room with books especially for children. We enjoyed choosing books to read, and we wrote some FICTION and some NON-FICTION titles on our worksheets.
We met a librarian in the science room who answers questions from the people who come to the library.
We found a special big box that is used to return books to the library after checking them out.

Being that we didn't have library cards with us we were not able to check out books. We hope that our parents will take us back to the library some time soon so that we can check out our favorite books!

Celebrating Purim in Kindergarten!!

On Shushan Purim we had a grand Purim party with the Pre-K. All the Yeladim dressed up in very creative costumes. The Yeladim stood up on a "stage" to tell us what they were dressed up as.
We re-enacted all the Mitzvos that we do on Purim. We watched a Megillah slideshow, we gave Tzedaka, we exchanged Mishloach Manos, and we ate Hamantashen for the Purim meal. The party ended with dancing to Purim music.

We all had a fabulous time! Enjoy the pictures!
